It is a common saying that the shortest jokes are the best. However, the one Nanowar Of Steel started twenty years ago is still going strong. The Italian parody band has never deviated from its delirium and has built a solid career. With "Dislike To False Metal", they offer a sixth album that shows from its cover and its tracks that they still don't plan to get serious.
From the very first track, Nanowar Of Steel sets the scene. 'Sober' is typical Alestorm folk metal, bouncy and rhythmic, with hilarious lyrics. With 'Pasadena 1994' and 'Metal Boomer Battalion' it's Sabaton-like power metal that is parodied. Joacim Broden is even invited on the first track, which does not evoke a battle but the final lost by the Italians in the football world cup. The result is stunning, epic, powerful and the warlike choruses are remarkable.
'Disco Metal' parodies Amaranthe or Beast In Black with its big techno beat and tampered voice. Evoking dandruff, 'Winterstorm in The Night', with a guest appearance by Madeleine d'Eleine, parodies symphonic Metal à la Epica by bringing together the ingredients of the genre with efficiency, while 'Muscle Memories' is a typical US Metal power ballad with a very fun result as it is so syrupy.
With 'Chupacabra Cadraba' Nanowar Of Steel allow themselves a long delirium oscillating between Mexican music and western atmosphere with a very catchy speed Metal solo. The track 'Dimmu Boogie' brings a smile to the face with its 50's atmosphere and big band brass, as does 'The Power Of Imodium' which allows Nanowar Of Steel to ape the power symphonic worthy of the great Rhapsody era with keyboards in the foreground and an emphatic operatic side.
This new Nanowar Of Steel album is a pure fantasy that takes pleasure in parodying many of the styles of the heavy world. Far from the amateurism of some, the musicians present a huge talent and a remarkable sense of burlesque writing. - Official website
