Five years have passed since the release of our Quebec cousins' excellent "Lies and Butterfly", an album that confirmed the talent and potential of the new line-up at the end of the first part of his career, which ended with the 2012 release of "The World is a Game".

With "Redemption", Mystery return in a now stabilized configuration, opening this new album with the eye-popping 'Behind the Mirror', featuring a huge sound bursting with neo keyboards, supported by drum rolls and furious bass. Michel St Père's guitar regales us with luminous solos, while Jean Pageau lays down his distinctive vocals on an inspired opening melody. The wheels are in motion, and the 74-minute album once again confirms the band's talent. Admittedly, the ingredients remain neo-progressive Rock classics, strongly inspired by Marillion (the second half of the splendid 'Pearls and Fire'), but at this level of mastery, the listener can only bow to the combo's ability to grab him by both ears and never let go.

A track like 'Pearls and Fire' offers a variety of themes and moods to trigger repeated listening to soak up the different melodies, each more magnificent than the last, inviting in spacey keyboard parts or luminous guitar solos. Mystery is also capable of delivering a magnificent, soothing ballad subtly embellished by a delicious instrumental development ('My Inspiration'), or of looking to the great Camel on the epic that concludes the album. The latter proves to be a veritable anthology of all that progressive rock can produce at its best, moving from an enchanting flute to metal projections and then to soaring, Pink Floyd-like ambiences as the themes intertwine, before a pompous finale, punctuated by a superb guitar solo, without ever departing from impressively musical melodies. Great art indeed.

Despite the length of "Redemption", Mystery never sedate us, subtly playing in all the registers that neo-progressove Rock can produce, armed with an unfailing musicality that keeps the listener on the edge of his seat throughout eight tracks to be savored again and again.
