Although the pandemic now seems far away, it has left its mark on people's lives. The first containment has nevertheless generated beautiful stories of solidarity. Among these is the project formed by several French musicians, Drøpdead Chaos. The project, which was created to help the Fondation de France and then venues, released three singles between 2020 and 2021.
The story could have ended with the return to normalcy, but the collective continued the adventure and transformed the project into a band. The result is 'Underneath The Sound', which aims to ensure that the courage and strength of those who faced the pandemic is not forgotten. Coming from Black Bomb A, Betraying The Martyrs, Trepalium or Think Of A New Kind, the musicians offer ten tracks on which they mix their influences.
The record plunges into a 90's nu metal spirit at the crossroads of Slipknot, Korn or Linkin Park, delivering some nice energetic and nervous burns with raging vocal parts on intense screaming choruses. The energy deployed is enormous and makes one appreciate the efficient heavy soli. Some tracks ('One Last Encore', 'What I've Learnt', 'Rainman') sound like American rock, combining power with a strong sense of melody, and with vocals tinged with melancholy. Finally, the band does throw in a few touches of rap, even going so far as to perform an entirely rap track ('Dead').
"Underneath The Sound" is a fresh and pleasing record, finding all the strength of a scene that has shaken up metal in a beautiful way. - Official website
