Dieth is a new project bringing together ex-Megadeth Dave Ellefsonn, drummer Michael Łysejko, formerly of Decapitated, and singer and guitarist Guilherme Miranda (ex-Entombed A.D). The trio have been distilling singles over the last few months and are now launching with a debut opus, "To Hell And Back".
Given the musicians' backgrounds, we have some clues as to the musical style they'll be tackling. At the heart of the album are Swedish-style death metal tracks tinged with a Thrash that's as groovy as it is devastating, driven by fast, hard-hitting riffs and soli. The choruses are well-crafted, with Miranda's dark growl sticking to the wall.
'Wicked Disdain' and 'Dead Inside' offers Thrash à la Slayer: intense rhythm, riffs and soli bursting forth in furious, galloping mode. The violence is exhilarating and makes you want to smash everything. Miranda's vocals are in perfect control, not unlike those of Max Cavalera. 'Heavy Is The Crown' is closer to groovy thrash à la Pantera. The track kicks into high gear and charms with deep clean vocals full of feeling.
The band also knows how to calm things down. 'Walk With Me Forever' sees Ellefson take the microphone. The result is a beautiful, melancholy ballad with top-quality veiled vocals and an emotionally powerful chorus. The instrumental 'Severance' follows in the same melancholy tone, carried by a catchy melody.
Dieth's debut album is a success. Its return to hell and back is very effective, with good punch and effective melodic work. In view of the musicians' busy schedule, we can only hope that this project is not just a one-shot deal. - Official website
