Shakra can now assume its status as a Swiss dinosaur. Krokus and Gotthard, the other Helvetian heroes, will forever be its ancestors, but a band over thirty years old certainly deserves its place in a book of musical paleontology. Born in 1990 under the name Ruckus, the combo boasts a CV of a dozen albums since deciding to change its name in 1997. This thirteenth album, "Invicible", is presented to us today. Will it bring luck to the men of the white-crossed confederation?
Shakra never managed to climb into the first division of the melodic hard rock league... Whether the band's compositions are similar to Gotthard's and/or the quality of their albums is relatively inconsistent, no one can blame the Swiss for not sending out tracks that don't make you tap your soles. In fact, it's their trademark. And "Invicible" is a perfect example of this, with its twelve balls of energy making up a flawless record. A veritable conglomeration of riffs and atomic drums, the album unerringly radiates colossal energy to any listener who dares to listen to it.
Somewhere between melodic metal - notably on the explosive 'The Matrix Unfolds' - and melodic hard/heavy rock, as on the implacable 'Tell Me I'm Sorry', this new offering from Shakra certainly won't revolutionize the genre, but it deserves to be a great success. Aided by the roaringly attractive voice of Mark Fox, who sounds like Brian Johnson on certain tracks, and supported by the musicians that accompanies him, the tracks follow one another without respite. Hedonistic and biting, the Helvetians' hard rock'n'roll hits the bull's-eye over the long haul, even when it comes to the ballad when (at last) we really think of Gotthard on 'As I Lay Down To Sleep'.
So let's thank these old-timers for their assiduity, even if they haven't yet reached the nirvana of the upper echelons of notoriety, and for the work they've done on this "Invicible". What a kick-ass album! - Official website
