If the name Luca Scherani doesn't remind you of anything at first sight, perhaps the names of bands like Finisterre, Höstsonaten, The Samurai of Prog or La Coscienza di Zeno will be more evocative. The Genoese musician has been involved in many projects for years, whether as a composer, arranger or multi-instrumentalist. Perhaps it is because Höstsonaten and La Coscienza di Zeno, his two main ports of call, have not released anything since 2016 for the former and 2018 for the latter that Luca Scherani has decided to release his third solo album, "Everything's Changing", this year.

And what a happy initiative! "Everything's Changing" is a bubble of sweetness and creativity where we find a mix of rock, neoclassical, a bit of jazz, touches of contemporary music and experimental music that can only delight any fan of the original prog. The intimate solo/duo/trio pieces, close to contemporary chamber music, alternate intelligently with the orchestral tracks, open to an evolving prog, sometimes tinged with jazz rock, avoiding any loss of attention. The melodious compositions are sufficiently complex to renew the listener's interest without stopping, but not too much to put him off, even if some more experimental or contemporary passages sometimes disturb this beautiful harmony.

The album is largely instrumental: only three tracks are sung, the last of which closes the album in an original way with the lyrical vocal of soprano Chiara Bisso. The guitars and the drums are particularly discreet, even absent, advantageously replaced by flutes and violins accompanied by the numerous keyboards played by Luca Scherani, including a magnificent grand piano. Other instruments (trumpet, saxophone, harp, bouzouki, oud) enrich an already rich chromatic palette.

Delicate, charming, graceful, melodious, harmonious, so many qualifiers to define the music of this very beautiful album which does not forget to be surprising, audacious and very... progressive. Luca Scherani demonstrates once again that the Italian school has no equal in the art of conciliating creativity and delicacy.
