We had to be patient to find an Overkill blocked by the pandemic. But this didn't stop Blitz and his band. The thrash legend is back with "Scorched" and it's a pleasure to see him again, just like when we used to see Motörhead every few years. The band has never disappointed and even if they haven't had anything to prove for a long time, they're still in great shape.
On this new album, Overkill show their fangs in a beautiful way, delivering sharp thrashy blasts with Blitz screaming like hell with intense high-pitched vocals on a very fast rhythm. If 'Scorched' is muscular, the band introduces a good touch of heavy in the riffs and solos bringing an efficient melodic side.
This melodic tendency is confirmed several times and sees Overkill mixing Heavy elements with their Thrash base. The catchy chorus of 'Goin' Home' evokes Saxon, 'Wont' Be Coming Back' is close to Dio with its main riff mixed with the ardour of Accept on an effective chorus and fast soli, 'Fever' is reminiscent of Black Sabbath with its more sedate vocals and effective melody full of 70's groove and 'Bag O'Bones' has a fresh directness and a nice catchy chorus.
"Scorched' is a rich and varied success. Overkill shows a great freshness by offering a high quality record, both powerful, intense and melodic.
