"Ray Adler's "II" is an effective, if not revolutionary, album featuring solid instrumentalists and a singer as talented as ever"

Ray Alder, known as the lead singer of Fates Warning for over thirty years, pursues a solo career that doesn't disappoint. On this new album "II", four years after his first solo opus "What the Water Wants", he is accompanied by his faithful band of sharp, precise instrumentalists, including Mike Abdow on guitar, Tony Hernando on bass and Craig Anderson on drums.
Fates Warning is generally regarded as a progressive metal band, and is still active at last count. On "II", the songs are generally short, the rhythms relatively simple. This is a move away from progressive metal towards classic heavy rock, with a very good singer.
The first four tracks are the hardest-hitting, the others are less striking and varied, with the exception of the penultimate track, 'Changes'. Ray Alder's aim was to be darker and heavier than on his first album, with darker, more polished lyrics.
All in all, "II" is an honest, well-produced album, but one that perhaps lacks a little variety and surprises over time. - Official website
