"Rian has not repeated the performance of his previous album with this "Wings", which nevertheless has enough qualities to please fans of H.E.A.T., Eclipse or Winger."

Two years ago, Rian released "Twenty-Three", which thrilled fans of Swedish melodic hard rock. Now we have "Wings", and the only question that comes to mind is whether the remarkable level of the previous opus will be maintained. Indeed, given their musical genre, a Hard Rock torn between AOR and FM, it was inconceivable that the combo would offer a stylistic revolution with this third album.
And, as expected, the foursome once again deliver a high number of tracks destined to those who have been influenced by the melodious 80s. The eleven works can be divided into two groups. The first one comprises tracks with a hard-hitting initial hook, while the second features tracks with an opening trio of keyboards/soft vocals/soothing strings. For the former, the culprit is that devil Tobias Jakobsson, who has obviously retained a few traces from his former life as a death metal musician, his riffs energizing the classically peaceful intentions of the compositions.
The quality of the tracks is linear, there are no real hits nor weaknesses. However, it's clear that "Wings" is less effective than its elder brother. This is because the melodies have less impact, and despite the pleasant vocals of Richard Andermyr, who is perfect for this style of music, and the special care taken with the backing vocals, they do not really strike a chord with music-lovers.
Rian has thus failed to meet the challenge of a second five-star opus in a row. However, this product has enough qualities for the H.E.A.T., Eclipse or Winger fans. - Official website
