At the risk of running out of superlatives, let's get straight to the heart of the matter: Nita Strauss offers us a second solo album of great beauty. Alice Cooper's official guitarist for almost 10 years, the virtuoso goes straight to the point with her raging riffs and guitar hero solos, all the while leaving a place of choice to the vocals, in all humility. Which probably explains the "Stay humble or be humbled" slogan often emblazoned on his T-shirts, designed by the clothing brand of his boyfriend, who is very involved in his girlfriend's career.

In this second solo opus, Nita Strauss has enlisted the help of a number of leading singers to highlight her powerful compositions, and it's a great success. The alternation between instrumental and sung tracks is very well balanced indeed, and the album flies by without you even noticing it. While Nita Strauss makes no secret of her admiration for guitar heroes such as Jennifer Batten, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman, the first band to really inspire her to write music was In Flames. So, in the "making my dreams come true" series, Nita Strauss invited Enders Fridén, singer of the band, to sing on the headbangingly good 'The Golden Trail' and Marty Friedman on the moving 'Surfacing', and she plays on a Joe Satriani Peavey JSX amp. Pretty coherent!

But how can we not also praise the contribution of the charming and prickly Alissa White-Gulz, frontwoman of Arch Enemy, on 'The Wolf You Feed' or that of the great Chris Motionless (Motionless in White) on 'Digital Bullet', whose clip is captivating. Alice Cooper's participation is also very welcome - even if he owed him that after 10 years of loyal service.

On the downside, 'Monster' and 'Victorious' sound a little more commercial than average, making the album more eclectic but less coherent. It's an album that won't leave you insensitive and that will let you headbang from start to finish, but in her great kindness, Nita Strauss intersperses skilful patches of contemplation, perhaps out of empathy for the back of our necks.
