Three of the world's most powerful leaders join forces to achieve the same goal: world peace through music. What a program! Here comes Nuclear Power Trio, modern-day knights armed with guitar, bass and drums. Obviously, this parodic trio, made up of Greg Burgess (Allegaeon) on guitar, Pete Webber (Havok) on drums and Nick Schendzielos (ex-Havok, Cephalic Carnage, Job For A Cowboy) on bass, don't take themselves too seriously. Here's his first album, "Wet Ass Plutonium", an instrumental record that draws on a wide range of musical styles.
The album amalgamates a variety of influences, with Latino touches and a bass that leads the dance ('¡Vamos, Brandito!'), peaceful elevator music ('Anti-Saxxers (Mandatory Saxination)'), rhythmic moments where brass instruments set the tone, synthetic touches that add a touch of modernity ('Air Force Fun') and rhythmic changes worthy of the great hours of progressive music. The musicians have total mastery of their instruments, and the guitar is excellent, melodic without ever lapsing into showmanship.
Unfortunately, despite a careful set-up, Nuclear Power Trio fails to convince, due to repetitive melodies and a lack of clear direction. The band seems to hesitate, struggling to find the right balance. Not everyone is Farmakon or Faith No More. "Wet Ass Plutonium" is thus a record that goes off in all directions, possessing a solid technical base but struggling to offer content that is sufficiently coherent and original to capture attention. - Official website
