The Germans of Primal Fear have been accompanying heavy metal fans for over 25 years. In that time, they've never changed their tune, serving the metal cause with a consistency that commands respect. There have been highs and lows, but the balance is heavily in the positive. With "Code Red", the band raise a new cry of urgency about the state of our planet.

The tracks of "Code Red" offer a subtle balance between power and melody, delivering some melodic heavy nuggets ('Another Hero', 'Bring That Noise', 'Steelmelter'). There's the fast, powerful side, driven by blistering riffs and solos', to which is added the melodic touch provided by catchy, unifying choruses. The whole is carried by a stunning Ralf Scheppers, equally at ease on high notes and in a catchy register.

'Play A Song', 'Raged By Pain' and 'Fearless' are simple and straightforward, their Germanic heavy martial sound reminiscent of Rage or Accept, with catchy choruses and melodies. 'Cancel Culture' and 'Their Gods Have Failed' are more sophisticated. With a symphonic tinge, the former has a unifying chorus and a remarkable instrumental part. The second is more melancholy, with a high-flying epic chorus and a progressive edge in a huge solo part that glues you to your seat. 'Forever' is also a seductive power ballad full of feeling, with Ralf's emotional range at its best.

"Code Red" is a very good vintage. Primal Fear displays the best of its art here, offering a perfect blend of raw power and catchy melodies.
