"A little off the radar in recent years, Helmet makes a fine comeback with a punchy, catchy "Left"."

In the early 90s, the Americans of Helmet shook up the world rock scene with their alternative rock metal. Four highly commendable albums were released before a split in 1997. Led by Page Hamilton, the band returned in 2004. But the magic has faded and, like Therapy? the band is still struggling to recapture its former aura.
Without being disgraceful, their last album "Dead To The World" lacked strong moments. Seven years on, "Left" has the task of keeping the flame alive. Barely longer than un EP, the record sees Helmet regain its vitality with 'NYC Touch Guy,' 'Big Shot' and 'Dislocated'. The whole is direct and edgy, thanks in particular to Hamilton's vocals. The riffs are simple and effective, taking us back to the heart of the 90s when alternative metal was is the spotlights.
Helmet also knows how to alternate moods, mixing metal and pop with intelligence. The tone is often melodic, but also heavy, with a hint of noise on the riffs. "Make-Up' is US radio-calibrated pop rock with seductive vocals, 'Tell Me Again' is surprisingly acoustic and melancholy, reminiscent of Alice In Chains and the final instrumental, 'Resolution', has a pleasantly jazzy feel.
"Left" is a nice surprise. Helmet's new-found shape and their ability to combine catchy melodies with raw power make it a real winner. This renewed vitality is a pleasure, and gives us hope for a new youthfulness for the band. - Official website
