"Everything in "Luminescence" is gentle and introspective, giving Bruce Soord the opportunity to present his own reflections on the state of the world and a very personal look at his life in this acoustic journey."

Competing with Steven Wilson as the busiest musician on the progressive planet, Bruce Soord brings us his third solo album, "Luminescence", in 2023. For those who missed the two previous albums released under his own name, Bruce Soord's solo music is based on more or less the same elements as Pineapple Thief's last productions, i.e. tracks with outstanding musicality, but in an acoustic/intimist mode.

"Luminescence" is no exception to the rule, and 'Dear Life' immerses us immediately in these moods. After a delicate intro, Bruce Soord delivers a finely chiselled melody carried by a delicate and subtle acoustic guitar accompaniment, supported by sweet keyboard strings. All twelve tracks on this album follow the same rules, with frequent use of cleverly measured reverb on both vocals and instrumental sounds further accentuating the introspective feel. The instrumental 'Rushing', however, breaks somewhat from these canons, with a bass-driven melody setting the mood for a film, before segueing into the more classic 'Stranded Here'.

Everything here is softness and introspection, an opportunity for the artist to present his own reflections on the state of the world and a very personal look at his life. As usual, the production is impeccable, bringing out every note, every chord, every background melody in the best possible way. Bruce Soord invites us to a short, coherent journey from start to finish, ideally listened to alone in the dark, ignoring the lack of ambient variety inherent in most acoustic productions.
