Skip The Use's EP 'Sound From The Shadow' was released in 2011, laying the foundations for a body of work that would shortly, with 'Can Be Late', explode before the eyes and ears of an audience that has been growing ever since. A bit like a good series whose next season is a long time coming, it's only 12 years later that the band offer us 'Sound From The Shadow Part.2'.

A lot has happened to Skip The Use in 12 years, with successes, break-ups, a return to favour and a host of concerts packed with exceptional, infectious energy: the essence of what makes the band tick, a blend of abrasive punk-rock and danceable funk. If this first EP served as a kind of laboratory for what was to become the Skip The Use sound, this second part borrows a little of its spirit. In the last two albums, the band developed a sound close to the 80s. Here the direction is a little different. 'Stay Focus' is very electro, without losing any of the energy mentioned above.

This more contemporary, experimental aspect is confirmed throughout the album, which moves between nervous new wave ('Tout Contre Nature' with Lou Sirkis), more melancholy moments between acoustic and electro (the beautiful 'Kids') and passages that accentuate contrasts ('The One' with Anthea). Skip The Use have no equal when it comes to finding the musical G-spot that excites the listener, whether it's Mat Bastard's vocals, whose singular phrasing is unaffected by the passage of time, or the talented instrumental execution. To round off the album, which consists of 8 studio tracks, Skip The Use add two live tracks, including the standard 'Ghost', whose version delivered here demonstrates, if it were still necessary, all the ardour of the frenchies.

This second part of 'Sound From The Shadow' is yet another success from this band who have never renounced their music or their signature style, while remaining up to date.

DEORBIT: Retrogradient (2023)
STONER - "Retrogradient" is as impressive in its construction and execution as it is bewitching in its granitic yet spacey effluvia.
STEVE HACKETT: The Circus And The Nightwhale (2024)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Based on an rather naive concept (love saves all), "The Circus and the Nightwhale" is far from being Steve Hackett's best album. What's left is the know-how...
