King Ov Wyrms is a young American duo offering dark music on the edge of death and black. Ricky Williams (Never Reborn) on drums and Michael Sanchez (Pain Patterns) on vocals, guitar and bass, offer compositions that play with labels to better redefine them. After a first album of quality, but with average production ("Lord ov Thornes"), they release "The Womb ov Borealis", with a dark cover evoking the myths of Cthulhu... Will this record be able to erase the previous imperfections?

In the mists of the abyss, on the edge of the cosmos, reigns an immaterial entity, King Ov Wyrms. Oscillating between furious passages and luminous strokes, the band builds a sonic molasses from which emerge dashes of amber sweetness. Dark and tortured, King Of Wyrms' music will challenge your sanity, for it is a painful, protean journey whose essence is sometimes hard to grasp.

The packaging doesn't dull the beautiful melodies that illuminate the guitar solos or the simple, stripped-down passages. Acoustic spikes enhance the flavor without ever distorting the colossal architectures ('What Time Has Wrought', 'Sightless Vision'), luring the listener in before submerging him or her under a deluge of power. Whether the music is essentially black ('The March From Darkness') or death, doom, gothic or thrash ('Sightless Vision'), melodic or darker, it remains interesting because it reserves its share of emotions. So, by choosing not to choose, the band blurs the lines and confuses, but it also asserts a very particular personality.

This is an interesting record that would have deserved a more varied, airier, less compact sound treatment. While the album is marked by impressive craftsmanship and a wealth of musical qualities, some of its passages sound cluttered and unfinished. In spite of this, "The Womb Ov Borealis" is an album worth discovering, whose music needs to be refined.
