"A fairly classic opus in the Sigur Ros discography, "Atta" could just as easily be described as a majestic and contemplative work as a boring and soporific exercise."

Sigur Ros likes to vary his pleasures. After an untitled album "()" with invented lyrics, an almost rock-like "Kveikur", an experimental Slow TV film set to music by "Route One", whose titles are GPS coordinates, and an ambient album lasting almost two hours, they are back with "Atta", a work that could be described as classic.
Classic in terms of length, at just 56 minutes, the album is also more classic in its structure and inspirations. Closer to Sigur Ros' early work, "Valtari" and "()" to be precise, "Atta" slowly unfolds its ever so beautiful and mournful harmonies. With the exception of 'Klettur', which benefits from a bass drum pulse, nothing disturbs the calm and serenity emanating from these ethereal keyboards enhanced by piano, lightly supported by the strings of the London Contemporary Orchestra and Jonsi's airy vocals. A certain torpor sets in, and you find yourself reaching the end of the album without really realizing it.
Depending on one's sensibilities, Sigur Ros' music can be described as majestic and contemplative, or boring and soporific. This is the difficulty of ambient albums: to captivate the listener over the long haul, something that "Atta" fails to do, with its overly hypnotic content and compositions that are too similar to one another. Far from being unpleasant, and even enjoyable on one or two successive tracks, listening to this opus in its entirety is intended above all for periods of the day, or the night, specifically dedicated to relaxation. - Official website
