With their eponymous debut ep, Dirty Honey presented themselves as a credible alternative to the Greta Van Fleet phenomenon. The quartet also made a name for themselves by becoming the first unsigned band to top the US Billboard charts with their track 'When I'm Gone'. Two years on, it's high time to confirm the hopes born in 2019 with a full-length album.

Dirty Honey delivers a compendium of unstoppable, flawless classic rock. With no downtime, the eight new tracks all boast relentless riffs and choruses that squat on your neurons and stay there for ever. And because they're all so varied, we find ourselves in the presence of a galette destined to establish the Californians as the Kiszka brothers' most serious rivals.

Among this collection of songs designed to hit the bull's-eye at every turn, we'll note the invitation to travel back to the '70s with the warm-hearted single 'California Dreamin'', the AC/DC riff of 'The Wire', the groove of 'Tied Up' worthy of the best Aerosmith, the infectious and unifying 'Gypsy', or the bluesy power-ballad 'Another Last Time' with its Hendrix-like intro. But each track deserves the full attention of listeners, who will also benefit from the quality of a rhythm section in which Corey Coverstone's drums demonstrate above-average dynamism. As for Justin Smolian's bass lines, they are highly inventive, giving this instrument an unavoidable place.

A successful attempt, then, with this opus, which may not look like much from the outside, but listening to it sounds like a beneficial slap in the face. In less than 30 minutes, Dirty Honey reminds us that it's more interesting to mix influences to offer a result with a strong identity than to turn into a carbon copy of a band, however legendary it may be. "Dirty Honey" thus marks out the territory of its authors and establishes them as the main hopefuls of the revival movement, while offering a refreshing moment of exhilarating, beneficial listening.

OTHER REVIEWS
VOICE OF RUIN: Cold Epiphany (2023)
DEATH METAL - "Cold Epiphany" is a record of spectral beauty, perhaps less rigid than its predecessor, more human perhaps, classic certainly, very pleasant to listen to.
PANIC ATTACK!: Don't Stop (2023)
HARDCORE - The square music of "Don't Stop" offers everything you'd expect from scorching hardcore.
