"Leaves' Eyes signs a very good "Myths OF Fate", just the right balance between catchy melodies and symphonic-tinged heavy power."

With time and two albums behind them, Leaves' Eyes have succeeded in installing their singer Elina Siirala in place of the charismatic Liv Kristin. Just over three years after "The Last Viking", a decent album but lacking the highlights to fully convince, Alexander Krull's band is back with "Myths Of Fate".

With 'Forged In Fire', Leaves' Eyes strike hard from the outset. It's an excellent symphonic metal track featuring a lovely vocal duet between Elina and Alexander on growl. It has an epic feel, with a catchy chorus and a calmer break. This pattern is repeated on 'Hammer Of The Gods', 'Sons of Triglav' and 'Einherjar'. The epic facet, symphonic aspects, growl and heavy solos are often reminiscent of Amon Amarth.

Leaves' Eyes also calms things down. 'Realm Of Dark Waves', 'Who Wants To Lie Forever' and 'Fear The Serpent' are close to the Nightwish sound, with a cinematic edge. Simple and straightforward, these tracks are power singles made for live performance. Charming ballads 'In Eternity' and 'Goddess Of The Night' also stand out, with Elina's pure vocals accompanied by beautiful melodies, swinging between Celtic and medieval.

With "Myths Of Fate", Leaves' Eyes have produced a well-balanced, symphonic and heavy album that has all the qualities to please fans of the genre. It also confirms Elina's place in the band, heralding a brighter future.
