"For Første Gang" didn't necessarily trigger mass hysteria. Admittedly, with its Danish interpretation and abundance of sweetness, it seemed reserved for a relatively limited fringe of the rock public. So to see Mike Tramp release a new opus in his mother tongue two years later is to leave one a little dubious: the question arises as to whether this "Man Af En Tid", again written by Lars Daneskov as far as the lyrics are concerned, will succeed in reaching a wider audience than its predecessor.
We won't dwell again on the characteristics of Hamlet's language, whose musicality is highly relative. However, this is not the only point that is renewed by the former singer of White Lion. Melancholy is once again invoked on numerous tracks, such as the ballad 'Indeni', which deals with the subject or the old-school 'Nat På Libelle', dedicated to the singer's missing mother. Haunting piano ritornellos also return ('Mand Af En Tid', 'Altid Farvel'). In short, there's nothing here to get your spine tingling again, which isn't necessarily a surprise given Mike Tramp 's departure from hard rock since embarking on his solo career.
However, there are a few elements that make this "Man Af En Tid" a little fresher than its 2022 predecessor with more positively energetic folk-rock pieces. The eponymous track, 'Hvis Du Vil' and 'Livet Er' are fine highway-songs with infectious momentum. There's also the bluesy 'Storm Og Stille', a powerful mid-tempo, and the endearing naivety of the sad waltz 'Sammen Alene'. Finally, it's impossible not to be touched by the twilight sweetness of 'Ham Vi Vil Vaere', which ends the album on a deep, soothing note.
All in all, "Man Af En Tid" remains the logical follow-up to "For Første Gang", to which it adds just a little more dynamism. It represents a fine tribute by its author to his country and origins, as well as a pleasant moment of moving sensitivity. If the translation means "the man of a time", it's clear that it's a time gone by, and that the memories here are tinged with a pervasive melancholy. - Official website
