After a five-year wait, Royal Republic are back with "Lovecop", an album that marks a turning point in their career. This unusually long interval between two albums is mainly due to the pandemic, which turned the whole world upside down. During this period, the band preferred to release singles to maintain the link with their public, while taking time to reflect and recharge their batteries. This forced pause proved beneficial, allowing the members of Royal Republic to return with renewed energy and a clear artistic direction.
"Lovecop" stands out for its musical diversity and rich arrangements. The album cover, which shows all the band members together for the first time since "We Are The Royal", symbolizes their new-found unity and collective strength. This image reflects a band that has matured and, having gone through periods of doubt and questioning, is now ready for a fresh start.
Musically, "Lovecop" is a patchwork of styles that integrate harmoniously to create a unique listening experience. The album features energetic tracks like 'Love Somebody' (more hard rock) and 'Ain't Got Time', which immediately captivate the listener with their raw energy and 80's dynamism. These tracks follow 'LazerLove', an ambitious, heartfelt power ballad that shows another side of the band. Inspired by the great ballads of the '80s and '90s, it's a risky but successful gamble, and has what it takes to win the hearts of fans.
Nostalgia for the '80s is in evidence throughout the album, particularly in 'Lazerlove', which recalls the sound of Toto and other icons of that era. 'Sha La La Lady' closes the album on a memorable note of West Coast and Electric Light Orchestra, evoking the end credits of classic films and adding the perfect finishing touch to this musical journey.
Royal Republic has skilfully blended different styles, from rock to disco (a mix in which they are all too prone to be pigeonholed), pop and even elements of metal ('My House'). This diversity has become a trademark, making the music difficult to categorize but always fresh and exciting. The band has managed to maintain a dynamic throughout the album, creating a real journey for the listener. "Lovecop" is not only proof of Royal Republic's resilience and creativity, but also a celebration of their ability to reinvent themselves and evolve.
All in all, "Lovecop" is a bold, varied and deeply personal album. It reflects the inner journey of the band members. Royal Republic offer us here a work rich in emotion and energy, confirming their place among the great names of the contemporary music scene. - Official website
