Two Door Cinema Club are one of those resolutely optimistic bands whose only desire is to share their positivity through simple, catchy songs. Like its ultra-colourful, very 80s cover, "Keep On Smiling" offers us a dozen tracks of shimmering, infectious melodies.

With the exception of the strange 'Messenger', which could have ended up in the Stranger Things soundtrack, "Keep On Smiling" will come as no surprise to fans of the band, who are expecting a dose of good humour and a mix of synth pop and bouncy disco rock. They won't be disappointed by songs like 'Lucky' and 'Wonderful Life', which inevitably get you moving, and even less so by the funky aspects of 'Blue Light' or the mellowness of 'High', which has the merit of providing a little rest with its beautiful, comforting bass.

They may, however, be slightly disappointed by a slight lack of inspiration (or ambition) leading to a feeling of repetition. 'Won't Do Nothing' and 'Feeling Strange' aren't bad compositions, for example, but they don't add much to Two Door Cinema Club's oeuvre. The addition of real drums could be an area for improvement and would, in particular, enable the rhythms to be varied.

If "Keep On Smiling" lacks the freshness of previous albums such as 'Tourist History' and 'Beacon', it nonetheless achieves its objectives: justifying its title and giving you a smile. Although it's not a radical departure from the band's past, it's a good entry into their discography, perfect for summer jaunts and carefree moments.

BLACK METAL - "Fall" demonstrates Borknagar's excellent health in the service of epic black metal with a tried and tested but still flamboyant formula.

DEATH METAL - Peter Morgan's "Altvs" is a good EP, melodic and violent, and begs to be followed up...
