With his followers, Alestorm forms a beautiful family-like community. Even if the idea is a little hackneyed, it fits in well with our pirate friends. The band's concerts are always great parties, and they offer their fans frequent releases. Barely two years after "Seventh Rum Of A Seventh Rum", the little band is back with an EP, "Voyage Of The Dead Marauder".
On the program are three previously unreleased tracks and two covers. The title track features Patty Gurdy on vocals. The result is an upbeat folk melody. Christopher's raspy vocals blend well with his partner's melodic voice, giving the track the feel of a hit. 'Uzbekistan' is a light-hearted romp, inviting you to have a drink with your mates. With its unifying chorus and fast-paced passages, it's sure to be a concert hit.
'The Last Saskatchewan Pirate', borrowed from The Arrogant Worms, is a beautiful folk metal song with a pleasing flute melody and a catchy chorus that makes you want to dance. Ian Taylor's 'Sea Shanty 2' is a good, catchy instrumental. Finally, 'Cock', the last previously unreleased track, is a pure folk pirate, fast and melodic, with a delirious chorus and unifying backing vocals.
"Voyage Of The Dead Marauder" is a fine gift from Alestorm to their fans. The band confirms its talent for stirring, constantly festive music. It'll keep them waiting for a long-awaited new album. - Official website
