"Overcoming yet another change of vocalist to offer an energetic power metal concentrate that also likes to flirt with the extreme, Nightmare confirms its artistic health on “Encrypted”!"

With “Aeternam” Nightmare seemed to be back on track for good. The record was fresh and varied, and its singer did the job with talent. But the upturn was short-lived. Madie was let go during 2022, leading the band to start again from scratch. They wasted no time in recruiting Barbara, who, like Madie, had played in an alternative metal band based in Annecy. After a few warm-up dates, the songwriting process moved swiftly to release “Encrypted”.
The album has a dynamic, direct feel, often leaning towards speed power metal. Tracks such as 'Nexus Inferi', 'Voices From The Other side' and 'Saviours Of The Damned' are melodic bombshells, boiling over with riffs and solos that make your head spin. Barbara impresses with her powerful, spirited tone, worthy of a Ralf Scheppers. In a classic heavy vein, 'Wake The Night' and 'White Line' are highly effective, a cross between Iron Maiden and Accept. The melodies hit the nail on the head, and here again Barbara shines with a Dio-like tone.
Nightmare also showcases a darker side. The Blossom Of My Hate', 'Incandescent' and 'Bordelines' all lean towards sharp, melodic death metal, with a powerful mix of growl and clean vocals. Barbara masters her voice perfectly in this rather violent register. Encrypted” adds an epic symphonic touch, full of emphasis, taking the track to the doorstep of Dimmu Borgir-style black metal.
“Encrypted” confirms Nightmare's artistic health. They have skilfully managed yet another change of vocalist, and have even taken advantage of it by leaning towards the extreme. Now we can only hope that the band will remain stable and keep moving forward. - Official website
