Three years ago, a new Phoenix appeared from nowhere in the skies of melodic hard rock. Nestor, born in 1989, had disappeared from the radar after two EPs in the 90s. When "Kids In A Ghost Town" was released, Nestor's return to the scene caused a veritable emotional maelstrom among fans who fell head over heels in front of this armful of 80's tracks.
Their popularity, acquired via streaming platforms and Youtube where they have gleaned a mind-boggling number of clicks, has enabled them to tread a few stages in the company of Def Leppard, Europe and even Kiss, while awaiting Toto this summer. And they're probably still in their infancy, since the new instalment of their adventures is even more addictive than their first. Indeed, Nestor's second album is full of hits glorifying the sepia years and their icons. Particularly radio-friendly, the tracks follow on from one another with no let-up, forcing the listener to succumb almost shamefully to their old-fashioned charm.
In the end, though, it doesn't matter: borrowing this time machine and rubbing shoulders with the old-fashioned allows you to rediscover the first emotions you felt when listening to some respectable old LPs. This DeLorean is fuelled by sharp riffs, far from trivial solos, and old-fashioned synths to reinforce the catchy effect of melodies that put smiles on our lips. From 'We Comme Alive' onwards, with its intro and hints of the "Exorcist", we're carried away. The lions are then unleashed into an arena featuring, among others, Def Leppard ('Last To Know', reminiscent of 'Hysteria'), Toto ('Unchained My Heart'), Y&T (the riffs of the eponymous track), and Bon Jovi (the familiar synths of 'Addicted To Love'). The imprint of House Of Lords and early Treat is also palpable here and there.
Nestor doesn't just celebrate the classics, he regenerates the style. Any fan of melodic hard rock from the good old days should, without a shadow of a doubt, take a look at the band's albums and this amazing "Teenage Rebel". - Official website
