"Powerwolf's "Wake Up The Wicked" is a theatrical, epic opus that takes us on a journey to the heart of tasty horror stories"

To date, Powerwolf has never disappointed, but the German band nevertheless plays with risk. They have their own recipe and apply it conscientiously, often flirting with repetition. Their latest offering, "Interludium", was a classic, and it's easy to wonder whether it's all going to run out of steam. "Wake Up The Wicked" follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, with an impressive, theatrical cover tinged with a medieval historical spirit and steeped in religion.
The idea of romance is central, and Powerwolf is more than ever an epic storyteller. 'Sinners Of The Seven Seas', 'Kyrie Klitorem', '1589', 'Joan Of Arc' and 'Vargamor' are all musical novels. Attila carries the whole thing with his powerful voice, while Falk Maria brings the horrific atmosphere with his keyboards. The unifying refrains are made for the stage with warrior choruses, and the solos do the job in a heavy melodic register.
In 'Bless' Em With The Blade', 'Viva Vulgata' and 'Thunderpriest', Powerwolf bring speed metal to the fore, delivering hard-hitting power metal tracks. Attila's simple, straightforward style impresses with his high-pitched vocals. Keyboards and guitars are in symbiosis through virtuoso solos. Heretic Hunters' delights with a danceable folk edge to the fore, in a beautiful theatrical epic fable that makes you want to raise your fist.
"Wake Up The Wicked" is a well-crafted album that's a pleasure to listen to, with a good whiff of historical adventure and romance. Powerwolf don't reinvent themselves, but bring just the right amount of variationnot to tire. - Official website
