With "One And Only", the indefatigable and tireless Anvil has reached a symbolic milestone in terms of number of albums. As our Canadian friends can attest, there is one band and one band alone that is so resistant to all headwinds. The cover featuring their trademark anvil shows that the time has not yet come to change course.
Anvil showcase their hard rock side, reminiscent of AC/DC or Motörhead, with straightforward, classy tracks. 'One And Only', 'Truth Is Dying', 'Rocking The World', 'Run Away' and 'Blind Rage' are hard-burners of formidable effectiveness. The foot-stomping directness is impeccable, as is the hoarse tone of Lips, irreproachable on simple, effective choruses. On guitar, Lips takes great pleasure in his high-flying solos.
But Anvil is also heavy metal, and here the Canadians show great energy. 'Feed Your Fantasy', 'Fight For Your Rights', 'Gods And Diamonds', 'Dead Man Shoes' and 'Condemend Liberty' are all cut from heavy speed, driven by Reiner's in-form drums. The edginess, even the ebullience, is gripping. Lips is in snarling mode, the choruses are direct and the solos are striking in a 80s-style heavy.
"One And Only" shows Anvil in top shape, a faithful representative of the metal cause who is not about to give up. The trio continues on its way in fine style, and we hope it stays that way for a long time to come. - Official website
