For those unfamiliar with Evergrey, the Swedish progressive metal band formed in 1993 has just released its 14th album! Longevity is no guarantee of quality, but if singer Tom Englund is the only original member, the band has left its mark on the world of progressive metal.

"Theories of Emptiness” is pleasant to listen to, but not indispensable, especially at a time when the plethora of releases constantly invites a dilemma as to which music to listen to. Too much is certainly the enemy of good, but that's just the way it is. There's an abundance of music on offer, and without a new angle or fresh approach to music, the bands and their albums pass by and are forgotten unless they are particularly original, new or well composed. This is the pitfall of the democratization of streaming applications. It has become very easy to compose music today, provided you have the time and the talent, of course.

Despite the production quality of this Evergrey's latest album, there's a good chance that it won't go down in history. Not that it's insipid, far from it, but the music is unsurprising and expected. It's well-made Evergrey, certainly, but not particularly original and even less transcendent.

We nod our heads, we tap our feet, often even, but what will be left after listening to “Theories of Emptiness”? Probably a vague reminder that this once pioneering band has released yet another album.

A.O.R. - Letting a certain melancholy shine through, easily understandable, “Old Habits Die Hard” nevertheless offers the image of an inspired FM displaying all the facets of his talented career.
WILDSTREET: Iv (2024)
HARD ROCK - Wildstreet serves up another addictive, tasteful dish with “IV”, covering a broad spectrum of sleaze and glam hard rock.
