The time for doubts is long gone. The bearers of an authentic folk metal sound, Korpiklaani delight with each delivery of soulful music carved from the spirit of Northern legends. “Jylhä” was a success, and the arrival of ‘Rankarumpu’ is a pleasure, with the idea of another beautiful journey.

Buoyed by a mystical cover, the record features faster tempi with many deliciously catchy tracks. 'Kotomaa', 'Aita', 'Saunaan', 'Rankarumpu' and 'Nouse' are fresh and tinged with a playful, rhythmic folk spirit. Jonne's stony vocals work wonders, as do the superb violin and accordion passages that bring out all that lovely folk soul. The choruses are catchy, and we can well imagine the tracks provoking some great dancing during live performances.

Korpiklaani also slows down the pace and signs some beautiful, soulful tracks in the form of shamanic journeys. 'Kalmisto', 'Oraakkelit' and 'Harhainen Höyhen' sound like stories told through music. The musical richness is enormous, exuding a very strong inhabited side full of a gripping folk soul. On vocals, Jonne shines, alternating between rougher and lighter tones like an actor. Between power and melody, 'No Perkele' and 'Mettään' are equally captivating, with lovely, calm folk breaks full of feeling and rousing solos.

“Rankarumpu” is a great success. Korpiklaani confirms his role as a remarkable folk storyteller, and signs a rich album, carrying the soul of his ancestors, at once melodic and danceable.
