This is a complex work that may be considered by some as an incongruous sequence of solos without head or tail, or as an avant-garde masterpiece by others... But under no circumstances will this "For The Love of Art And The Making" leave anyone indifferent!

With this opus, the genius - in this case Finn Zieler, the band's composer-keyboardist - continues to explore prog metal to the delight of listeners eager for novelty and despite some fans of the first 2 more conventional opus. Indeed, after a "The Devils Hall of Fame" navigating in a rather traditional progressive metal and a heavier and darker "Section X", the risk taking is optimal with this 3rd act composed of 43 scenes!

The version of this puzzle that is proposed to us starts like an umpteenth heavy symphonic album with its lyrical chorus. But to confine this "For The Love of Art And The Making" in particular to a banal album of this type would be a monumental mistake! "For The Love Of Art And The Making" is a prog metal opera by essence with all that it can involve as richness!

Impossible to make one scene stand out from the 43 others but the fact is that these 37 minutes are a condensed version of multiple and varied emotions that take you by surprise without you expecting it! The instrumental parts are legion with in particular the performance of Finn Zieler also very rich going from the acoustic piano to the organ while passing most often by incisive keyboards to stick to sharp riffs and a very often lightning rhythmic!

But don't believe that the vocals act as a stooge, on the contrary... For this 3rd opus, Beyond Twilight has hired Björn Jansson (Tears of Anger), who is doing the interim with class. His performance is quite simply extraordinary, accentuating the impression of schizophrenia and uneasiness of this crazy metal opera going from a "traditional" heavy singing close to a Jorn Lande to demented deliriums with screams and other disturbing laughter... His singing fits perfectly with the overall heavy atmosphere of the opus, especially because of the seamless succession of grandiloquent passages, soft melodies and ultra-heavy riffs!

This too short masterpiece is a real bomb, a tortured, dark and innovative avant-garde album made of 43 breaks that must be apprehended with a lot of patience...  "For The Love Of Art And The Making" is unpredictable and obviously indispensable for heavy prog metal fans.

PORCUPINE TREE: Fear Of A Blank Planet (2007)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - More accessible than any of their previous albums, "Fear of a Blank Planet" allows Porcupine Tree to climb one more step towards consecration.
ALLEN / LANDE: The Revenge (2007)
MELODIC METAL - We have here a great melodic metal record and probably a serious contender for the title of the melodic metal album of the year. All that remains is to wait for the third part....
