"The first album from Lÿnx, offering a crazy cocktail of glam and hard rock, "Claws Out" isn't necessarily original, but it's definitely effective."

After a debut EP released in 2021, Lÿnx cut their teeth the following year with a new EP, "Long Live Rock n'Roll", a crazy, engaging cocktail of hard rock and glam, featuring a singer with a high-pitched voice akin to that of Justin Hawkins (The Darkness). The cover of Black Sabbath 's 'Paranoid' demonstrated the Calgary-based Canadian band's determination not to confine themselves to a single genre. Three years later, the Alberta feline takes the plunge and records his first LP, evocatively titled "Claws Out".

The mad dog behind the microphone on previous EPs has been replaced by a certain Ja6ur, who cultivates the same irreverent extravagance as his acolytes. His voice may be less high-pitched than his predecessor's (though it holds its own on the eponymous track), but it's just as lascivious, raging and magnetic ('Hell In High Heels'). To his left, we find a certain Blade, who performs Olympic guitar solos, his fingers traversing the scales on the strings at breakneck speed. While the bass is beyond reproach, the same cannot be said of the drums: a little too forwardly mixed, they sometimes tend to drown out the sound.

The band's infectious energy is the common denominator on all ten tracks. On 'Can't Get Enough', the guitarist launches into a devastating solo, and the chanted chorus invites you to tap your feet. 'Band Of Brother' successfully fuses metal warmth (with a nod to Black Sabbath) and stadium anthem. 'Nothing But Love' is the ballad everyone's been waiting for, and proves that the triangular-eared beast has heart. 'Rock Machine' and 'Hard As Life' reveal a timid dark dimension that would benefit from further development.

Not necessarily original, but devilishly effective, this "Claws Out" is a success. The band saids: "There are no skippable songs on a Lÿnx album, we want every song to be a quality piece of work that gets you up and dancing, or a tear-jerking ballad, or a heavy, pounding hit to make your anger roar. For us, it's not just a hobby, it's a lifestyle, and we want every one of our fans to be as enthusiastic as we are about the music we create". In that respect, the mission is almost complete, and we look forward to what's to come.
