Nate Silva has made his mark in the world of music. The Canadian guitarist made a name for himself with indie band Reuben In The Dark and metal outfit The Slyde. This need to rub shoulders with all winds led him to embark on a solo adventure. Singles unveiled since 2023 have heralded the imminent release of this debut album with the supercharged title “The Chase”.

Nate Silva is not completely isolated, having enlisted the services of drummer Matt Babineau and a second guitarist (Matt Joseph). This trio formula adds an intimate yet dynamic touch to the whole. First and foremost, the singer's voice is warm, wilful and sunny, with occasional hints of adolescence (on the sparkling ballad 'Said And Done'), but he also knows how to let his rage explode without any artifice, and always with good reason.

This opus is more on the side of Reuben In The Dark than The Slyde , but it's not without decibel. Nate Silva draws indie-folk landscapes by lulling us with his acoustic guitar, notably on 'Perpetuate' and its swaying arpeggio relaunches. 'Cauterize' adds electric guitar to enhance the score with a stratospheric guitar solo. The melodies are pleasant, the choruses easily memorable and catchy. Yet Nate Silva never remains cloistered in his comfort zone. The eponymous track kicks in with its raging vocals and the electric pulses of guitars and overdriven drums. 'Burn' comes close to hard rock energy, but is distinguished by more pop rhythmic acrobatics. On the other hand, 'Come Down' seems too obvious and lacking in surprise.

Despite its short listening time of 28 minutes, “The Chase” is a good pick, allowing us to discover an endearing, music-loving artist. Let's hope the next album extends this sweet adventure by a few minutes more.
