"Brothers Of Metal's “Fimbulvinter” is a fine album in the form of a sequel to a heroic saga, with many bravura moments."

With “Emblas Saga”, Sweden's Brothers Of Metal have made a name for themselves among fans of epic heavy metal. While not revolutionizing the genre, the band's freshness and dynamism are very appealing. The new album, entitled “Fimbulvinter”, is in the spirit of Nordic mythology, with the band members' costumes and the themes highlighted.

“Fimbulvinter”, the second part of the story begun with ‘Emblas Saga’, is built like a film script. It kicks off with a bang, setting the stage for a heroic sequel. 'Sowilo', 'Flight Of The Ravens' and 'Giantslayer' form a rousing trio with a speed-melodic tone and an epic edge. The choruses are unifying, and the vocal duet is effective - the symbiosis between Ylva's powerful, melodic, airy voice and Joakim's deeper one is total. The epic force exuded is enormous and makes you want to raise your fist high.

After this thunderous start, the record alternates moods. The tragic side is represented by 'Heart Of Stone' and 'Berserkir'. Joakim's snarling voice brings a warlike aspect and the martial music sticks to the wall, while Ylva brings a gentle touch to the fury. This softer pause in the story is evident on 'Rivers Of Gold', 'Blood Red Sky' and 'Nanna's Fate'. Between Celtic folk, medieval music and a small dose of heavy, the tracks are airy and melancholy, guided by Yvla's pure voice. In between, 'Ratatosk', 'Heavy Metal Viking' and 'Fimbulvinter' carry the heavy lyric with fast, unstoppable epic melodies, magnified by a vocal duo at the top of their game.

“Fimbulvinter” is a fine confirmation from Brothers Of Metal. The band's epic, cinematic record is a thing of beauty that makes you want to set off on an adventure like in the great true metal era of the 1990s.
