The Warning are three sisters from Monterrey, Mexico. They are between 19 and 24 years old, but have already been making music for 10 years! Like many others, they started out by covering famous songs, which they posted on YouTube. One of them went viral, Metallica's 'Enter Sandman', so much so that even Kirk Hammet congratulated them! Since then, they've grown up and so has their band, opening for the likes of Def Leppard and Muse. “Keep Me Fed” is their fourth album, which, let's face it, is set to set them even higher.
The recipe is simple, effective, made up of catchy choruses, reinforced concrete riffs and pop/metal vocals in the style of Amy Lee (Evanescence) when she triumphed on the American airwaves, all squeezed into a format that never exceeds 3 minutes. It's unstoppable. Compared to its predecessors, this new opus is underlined by a heavy mascara ('Satisfied'), which in no way detracts from the melodic impact of the always seductive compositions. Of course, it would be tempting to see The Warning as nothing more than a kind of girl band, a mercantile product, a (false) impression reinforced by the fact that the three sisters are far from unpleasant to look at.
But Daniela (vocals, guitar), Alejandra (bass) and Paulina (drums) have it all: talent combined with charm. You have to take them seriously, as evidenced by this “Keep Me Fed”, which strings together irresistible anthems like a string of pearls. Twelve tracks, twelve hits. Wrapped in a massive, powerful sound, some of them stand out, first and foremost 'Qué Más Quieres', whose Spanish-language vocals colour it with a luminous energy. This is the first time the girls have attempted a song in their mother tongue, and given the result, we can only encourage them to do it again.
Then there's 'Automatic Sun', arguably the heaviest track of the lot, the most creeping and hypnotic for sure. The G-spot of the listening experience, without a doubt. Six Feet Under', the opener of a Hollywood blockbuster, the aggressive (but relative) 'Apologize', the painful 'Escapism' and the aforementioned 'Satisfied' are just as worthy of mention. Even a track like 'Sharks', with its modern, almost djent seams, wins us over. And that's saying something. On the strength of this ravishingly effective “Keep Me Fed”, it's hard to imagine The Warning not soon topping the charts of female metal! - Official website
