Avantasia's success and form continue unabated. “A Paranormal Evening With The Moonflower Society” was a brilliant epic and melodic odyssey, and this new album, ‘Here Be Dragons’, is no less so. Signed by Rodney Matthews, who has worked with Nazareth, Asia and Magnum, the superb cover, like the music, takes us on a first-rate hero-fantasy odyssey.

Avantasia opted for a more direct approach on their previous album, which is confirmed on 'Creepshow' and 'Unleash The Kraken', sung by Tobias alone. These are beautiful melodic heavy metal tracks with excellent choruses. 'The Moordland At Twiligt', featuring Mickael Kiske, is a speed metal success, magnified by top-notch riffs and solos. With Adrienne Cowan and Kenny Leckermo from H.E.A.T., 'Avalon' and 'Against The Wind' are in the same heavy metal vein, with effective choruses, striking vocal duets and dazzling solos.

Avantasia is just as catchy. Ronnie Atkins' warm, powerful vocals make an impact on 'Phantasmagoria', which verges on melodic hard rock. More FM, 'Bring On The Night' is a real nugget, characterized by omnipresent keyboards and, above all, the excellent duo formed by Sammet and Bob Catley, the singer from Magnum, whose hoarse tone remains as effective and full of feeling as ever.

'Here Be Dragons' is Avantasia's progressive symphonic track, featuring Geoff Tate. The two singers rival each other in class, while the song's theatrical epic tone makes your head spin. In a more melancholy vein, 'Everybody's Here Until The End' is a feel-good success, once again featuring a duet with Roy Khan whose deep, gravelly tone works wonders.

“Here Be Dragons” is a clear success. Catchy, melodic and epic, it transports the listener into a magical, fairytale world. Avantasia once again confirms its status as a leader in the genre.

GOTHIC METAL - Welcome to hell! Lacuna Coil's tenth album continues in a dark vein as exhilarating as it is terrifying, despite a lack of risk-taking.
RADIOACTIVE: Reset (2024)
A.O.R. - Returning to the basics of '80s AOR, Radioactive's “Reset” is a well-crafted album that struggles to stand out from the crowd.
