"Sevensent's debut album “The Affection” is both raw and melodic, where chaos and introspection intertwine to explore the darker areas of the human soul."

With their debut album “The Affection”, Italian band Sevensent takes us on an intense, tormented journey. It's a work that challenges us as much for its conceptual depth as for its instrumental audacity. Without trying to impress with excessive technical demonstrations, the band relies on a sonic narrative where each note, each riff, tells a story, that of an inner struggle between pain and hope.

From the very opening, the album is gripping in its dramatic tension and its ability to weave an oppressive, almost cinematic atmosphere. Tracks like 'Rosebud' and 'I Am The Poison' convey a visceral chaos, where powerful rhythms and cutting riffs form an oppressive sonic canvas. In contrast, 'Glamour' shines with its accessible melody and striking contrast: beneath its air of faux pop respite, it tackles dark themes such as self-destruction and toxic relationships, proving that Sevensent knows how to manipulate emotions without sinking into the easy way out. 'Further on, 'Leaving Me Behind' brings a poignant lull, while 'The Cycle Ends With You' closes the journey with an unexpected serenity, like a breath of hope after the storm.

At the heart of this experience is an emotional and introspective quest. The album seems to be constructed as a collective catharsis, evoking universal themes such as trauma, self-transcendence and the quest for meaning. One might guess the influence of conceptual albums such as Dream Theater, Pain Of Salvation, or here Survival Zero, those who make their mark through their ability to tell a story in music, but Sevensent makes no attempt to imitate. The approach is visceral, almost brutal at times, and that's precisely what makes it worth listening to.

Instrumentally, Sevensent displays a raw energy and rhythmic precision that serve as the album's backbone. The tracks don't try to do too much; here, sobriety is a strength, even if we could sometimes hope for a little more development in certain passages. The deliberate choice not to sound technical, while adding a touch of electro and vocal effects ('Cain'), lends the album an intensity and density that demands active, attentive listening.

If you close your eyes, you could almost visualize this music as a succession of tableaux: scenes of collapse and rebirth, mental landscapes where darkness always eventually gives way to a glimmer of light, however fragile. If this album is at times a little rough, it's because it refuses to be encumbered by frills. And that's where its strength lies. With this first offering, Sevensent lays the foundations for a distinctive sonic identity, marked by a determination to explore without concession. If you're looking for music that doesn't just entertain, but speaks to you at the deepest level, then this album deserves your full attention.

LOUDBLAST: Altering Fates And Destinies (2024)
DEATH METAL - “Altering Fates And Destinies” is another great vintage from Loudblast. Somewhere between death, heavy, doom and gothic, this is a richly varied opus of phenomenal power.
FIND ME: Nightbound (2024)
A.O.R. - Because of a few recurring imperfections, “Nightbound” fails to establish itself as a must-have, even though Find Me offers some fine pieces of muscular, catchy AOR.
