"Second album from a band that has changed its formula somewhat, but invites us on a pop-rock journey that's sunny but not devoid of storms."

Formed in 2016, Electric Pyramid had everything to succeed with its rich, supercharged rock formula. Alas, Covid disrupted their ascent. However, the Ol Beach-led band made its debut in 2021 with an eponymous album open to all genres and produced by a certain John Cornfield (New Model Army, Supergrass, Muse, Wet Wet Wet, Robert Plant), and toured alongside Wolfmother and Red Hot Chili Peppers. So, in the year 2025, this band, once coached by big names but now on a new label, releases a second album soberly entitled “Lion”.

Electric Pyramid brings a rock heritage to fruition, with an emphasis on guitars. The album kicks off with ‘Diorama’, an obvious single that takes us into the small world of this rock pharaoh. The mood is feel-good, the guitars are edgy but cultivate a sunny spirit, and Ol Beach's vocals deliver with gusto on an unstoppable chorus: a perfect calling card for a first approach. However, from the very first bars, the eclectic spirit of the band seems to have been somewhat put aside, the band gaining in coherence what it loses in variety.

The album thus revolves around a pop rock sound that's edgy but more lightly inclined than in the past. The guitar explosions may be more discreet on “Lion”, but the freshness of “Rio”, the quiet strength of ‘Supersize’ and the ballad “Lion”, dedicated to the singer's daughter, are all thoroughly enjoyable. Admittedly, the band has narrowed its sonic field of action, but there are still a few relics, such as ‘Mindful Eye’, which transports the listener to India, while ‘Devil Eyes’ has hints of the blues on which the bass rants with joy, while the guitar takes a solitary escape. One small regret is that the band undermines its finale, closing the album with the short instrumental ‘Waiting On You’, when it could have embarked on a wild final journey.

Electric Pyramid's second opus is a little more focused on a bright pop-rock sound, but this artistic choice is not disappointing. The tracks follow on from each other with pleasure and revitalize with their somewhat stormy good humor. It will be very interesting to see what this promising band has to offer on their third release.

ATMOSPHERIC METAL - “Blackout Whiteout” continues to disorientate Hanging Garden's followers as it veers into melodic territory between atmospheric metal, alternative rock and neo-metal.

THRASH - With “Unatøned”, Machine Head fall back into their old ways, offering generic modern metal in which thrash is sidelined in favor of a soulless radio sound.
