"The third milestone in the Desolation trilogy, "Shortcuts" takes us on a journey through a tormented, macabre universe that is never devoid of grace."

Kamyky regaled us with two instrumental albums, “Sleepy Cities” (2021) and “Coal Rock” (2022), two long-distance journeys into a tormented post-rock universe, chaotic but shrouded in light. Kacper Burda, from the western Polish town of Glogow, is the man-orchestra emeritus of this project. Three years later, the trilogy is finally complete with “Shortcuts”.
A testament to the band's deadpan humor, the album opens with a short, anxiety-inducing track entitled ‘Intro To Skip’ (don't take this advice!) and closes with the equally picturesque ‘Nobody Gets That Far’. With ambient-tinged ‘Resonant Skies’, Kamyky moves straight into familiar but gloomy territory, just like the blue cover. The drums are prodigiously meticulous, the bass spits out a cavernous sound, and the guitar pursues the listener with its heady, cutting feedback. The keyboards, more insistent on the previous album, play a predominant role: on ‘Lucid Dreams About Nothing’ they resemble the melody of celestial angels and add a little depth. The tracks resemble long, tapering geometrical figures, inviting us to follow the cinematography of a demented mind.
Among the successes of this journey into the depths of a black consciousness, ‘Unrevealed’ presents itself as a vertiginous walk on the edge of the abyss. Little by little (gradually!), the track reveals its full potential. As the title suggests, ‘Calm Piece’ is fresh and nostalgic, with acoustic guitar and the croaking of frogs. Streets' plays with accelerations and decelerations of tempo, driven by a frenzied rhythm section. The instrumental nature of Kamyky's music, although broken on ‘1,2,3’, on which a voice lists the three numbers of the title, can prove somewhat trying, giving the (false) impression that each track comes from the same mold. The 38-minute running time may nevertheless appear sufficient to ward off this fate.
“Shortcuts” is an excellent instrumental album, capable of stimulating the imagination from light to darkness in the blink of an ear. Several listens are necessary for everyone to make their own short film in their head. - Official website
