"Between Messhuggah and Strapping Young Lad, 'Amoeba' allows Hacride to impose itself, in the same way as Gojira, as an unavoidable extreme metal reference!"

After having surprised us in 2005 with the excellent "Deviant Current Signal", Hacride comes back to us two years later with "Amoeba" which is supposed to confirm all the good we thought about this band.
Musically, Hacride still works in an extreme metal between Meshuggah and Strapping Young Lad... There are worse comparisons and they are far from being usurped! If these affiliations are still obvious on 'Amoeba', especially in the destructured and syncopated riffs (as well as Textures and its fabulous "Drawing Circles"), the Gojira's one appears here as well in the sound as in Samuel Bourreau's vocals whose powerful voice is obvious in the middle of an aggressive and complex music....
Be careful ! To think that Hacride is only an umpteenth band doing basic extreme metal would be a mistake, as proven by "Liquid", a fine instrumental interlude that would have belonged on Joe Satriani's "Flying In A Blue Dream"... The same goes for "Ultima Necat", the atmospheric launching pad for the grandiose final track "On The Threshold of Dead"... In short, the 10 tracks that make up this Amoeba are all real hits on which we could talk for hours so much they have each a richness that reveals itself behind an omnipresent violence.
Of course, we can't end this review without mentioning THE track of the album, 'Zambra', a cover of the neo flamenco band Ojos De Brujo that presents itself as an improbable marriage of flamenco and extreme metal with its borderline rapped vocal. This track will convince the possible skeptics of the mastery with which Hacride alternates ultra heavy riffs, dizzying solos and acoustic passages.
No need to say more, 'Amoeba' is simply a must-have, allowing Hacride to impose itself, like Gojira, as an international extreme metal reference! - Official website
