It is on the strength of a colossal success in their country and a growing reputation in Europe that AC/DC decided to take on the United States. To put all the chances on their side, the Young brothers decide to make some changes. The first is to replace Harry Vanda and George Young, who has been in charge of production since the beginning, by John "Mutt" Lange. The latter will make AC/DC sound like never before and will arrange the compositions to make this album a real masterpiece. Second change: Peter Mensch becomes the manager of the band, which will open doors because he is the one who takes care of the interests of Aerosmith and Ted Nugent, among others.

Coming back to the music, it is difficult to present 10 songs that have become cult, especially the first eponymous track whose chords are learned by all beginner guitarists, as well as those of Deep Purple's 'Smoke On The Water'. What is certain is that all the elements that make a great hard-rock album are present to the point of becoming one of its ultimate references. From the hymns 'Highway To Hell' and 'Shot Down In Flames' to the greasy blues of 'Night Prowler', the syncopated 'Walk All Over You' and 'Beating Around The Bush' and the unmistakable 'Girls Got Rhythm' and 'If You Want Blood (You've Got It)'.

This album will exceed one million copies in the States alone and it will be gold record in France before the end of 1979. Unfortunately, the final destination of this highway to hell will lead to the death of Bon Scott on February 19, 1980 in London, after one of his secret drinking sprees.

End of the first part of the band's career, forever marked by this warm and hoarse whisky-fed voice. "The king is dead, long live the king" and R.I.P.

HACRIDE: Amoeba (2007)
DEATH METAL - Between Messhuggah and Strapping Young Lad, 'Amoeba' allows Hacride to impose itself, in the same way as Gojira, as an unavoidable extreme metal reference!
OCEANSIZE: Frames (2007)
POST ROCK - With "Frames", Oceansize crosses a stage, that to channel a ardour and an inspiration to propose less progressive and more atmospheric pieces.
