"More focused on ambiences than on harmonic constructions, "Think Like A Mountain" is a very successful album that allows us to discover Ritual, a band that has gone a little unnoticed despite its qualities and originality."

"Think Like A Mountain" is the third album of Ritual, a band created in 1995 by a certain Patrik Lundström. This name shouldn't be totally foreign to those of you who follow the Swedish progressive bands' news closely, since he held the vocal parts on some Kaipa's albums. Let's remember that Kaipa is the first band of Roine Stolt, leader of the Flower Kings.

Ritual serves us a music that can be described as... surprising from the first listen. The compositions are quite classic, the melodies are very well found in general and it's clear that we feel Kaipa's trademark, which is far from being a reproach. Let's face it, if you liked Kaipa's "Notes From The Past", you're unlikely to resist Ritual's "Think Like A Mountain".

Where this album is surprising is more in its ambience than in its harmonies. Right from the start, the first 15 seconds of the album plunge us into a Cairo Souk and the whole atmosphere of the track is provided by mainly acoustic instruments, with the electric section staying behind. But while the album could have been a sort of tribute to oriental music, it is in fact a wide range of influences that shine  with the use of many instruments, strings, flutes and more. In this context, even the basic rock track 'Explosive Paste' is remarkable.

What could have been a banal and unnoticed album becomes a very successful work. Combined with a flawless instrumental mastery and a very correct production for the time. "Think Like A Mountain" is an excellent album that allows us to discover Ritual, a band that has gone a bit unnoticed despite its qualities and originality.

RHAPSODY OF FIRE: Symphony Of Enchanted Lands (1998)
MELODIC METAL - "Symphony Of Enchanted Lands" is an essential album for any symphonic metal fan, imposing Rhapsody as the leader of this so particular trend that he created himself.
ANEKDOTEN: Vemod (1993)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Anekdoten clearly follows in King Crimson's footsteps, but without having the genius to do so.
