Wednesday 13 takes its name from two competing American television series from the 1960s featuring monster families. Wednesday refers to Wednesday, daughter of the Addams Family, and 13 for 1313, Mockingbird Lane, the address of The Munsters family.

It was following the impossibility, in 2003, to continue the adventure of the group Murderdolls due to an overloaded schedule from Joey Jordison (also drummer of Slipknot), that Joseph Pooles (alias Wednesday 13), supported by Roadrunner Records, decided to continue the musical adventure with a new band under his own name.

The band itself defines its music as horror-glam-punk-heavy-metal and cites bands such as Mötley Crüe, Twisted Sister or Alice Cooper as references. If it's a question of look, it seems pretty obvious, it's much less a question of music. It is difficult to place the group in a well-defined musical category. And this is precisely the great quality of this record: rather varied pieces in their style and rhythm, which, without ever questioning the coherence of the whole, at least avoids the pitfall of linearity and therefore monotony.

Wednesday 13 offers us a well-bred heavy-metal, sometimes sleazy rock like on the tracks "Not Another Teenage Anthem" and "From Here To The Hearse", and even quite thrashy ("Put Your Death Mask On" or "No Rabbit In The Hat"). Alongside some angry tracks like "Gimmie, Gimmie Bloodshed" or "All American Massacre", which will certainly make headbanging the fans' horde during the concerts, there are a few calmer ones like "Skeletons", "My Demise" or "Dead Caroline". Moreover, these songs are certainly the most interesting with a real melodic research.

In the end "Skeletons" is an excellent heavy-metal record that could well convince more than one fan of this musical genre. Naturally, it will be necessary to get used to the singer's very scratchy voice (like Blackie Lawless from WASP, but more accentuated). In any case, for my part, I'm going to listen seriously to the discography of this band again, just to make sure I haven't missed a more captivating music than it seems...
