If there are bands marked by destiny, Def Leppard can boast of being the victim of a veritable relentlessness on the part of the latter. After the tragedy that cost Rick Allen his arm between "Pyromania" and "Hysteria", a new tragedy has struck the successful Sheffield combo. Guitarist Steve Clark, who had been prone to alcoholism for some time, died following a new bout of abuse. After waiting 4 years for their drummer to recover from his accident and learn to play with only one arm, the band will decide despite this drama to follow up the worldwide success of "Hysteria".

While Def Leppard still offers us their characteristic pop metal, he is one of the few bands capable of doing so with such meticulous attention to detail in the backing vocals and arrangements, dynamism in the catchy, heady choruses, and emotion in the ballads and mid tempos. It's hard not to get your feet tapping on 'Let's Get Rocked', a potential hit that so richly deserves its title. Highly catchy, produced to the last detail, with an unforgettable chorus, this track is a tidal wave of good humor.

Surprisingly, this positive mood prevails throughout the album, despite recent events. With the exception of 'Tonight', a dark mid-tempo in the vein of 'Foolin'' from 'Pyromania', and the ambitious 'White Lightning', a long, heavy piece in the spirit of 'Gods Of War' from the previous album, the rest of the tracks oscillate between catchy hard rock and more emotional tracks such as the power ballad 'Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad' or the mid-tempo 'Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)'.

Despite more than respectable success thanks to regular radio play of 'Let's Get Rocked', "Adrenalize" failed to match the sales of its predecessor. But that didn't stop the album from being a real success, and an exciting follow-up to "Hysteria".

OTHER REVIEWS
GOV'T MULE: Dose (1998)
ROCK - Second consecutive masterpiece from Gov't Mule, "Dose" allows the band to innovate while keeping its Blues Rock roots.
SEPULTURA: Arise (1991)
THRASH - Arise is Sepultura's last album from the Thrash/Death period, and it is certainly the most representative of the band before it gradually gets lost in tribal rhythmics.
