After the very complex and rather hermetic "Flower Power", the flower kings have chosen with "Space Revolver" to present a more structured side of their music. The arrival of Jonas Reingold - from jazz and metal culture - on bass seems to have played a certain role in the compositions. But for fans to be reassured, the Flower Kings spirit is more relevant than ever.

The first reference that comes to mind is obviously SMTPe from "Transatlantic". Which is quite normal since both albums were released in the same year. However, the similarities are only obvious on a few tracks.

The primary characteristic of "Space Revolver" comes essentially from the fusion of genres. The melodies that were rare on their previous production are this time very well worked, mixing rock, pop and especially jazz. The reference to the latter is particularly reinforced by the use of instruments and an instrumental touch, specific to this movement. However, we remain in a very accessible jazz-like style and those who don't like this style should on the contrary be enchanted by these variations and these small punctual touches that bring a lot of richness. To this observation, are added a good number of small embellishments giving life to the compositions such as the use of sampled sounds such as a music box or bagpipes.

"Space Revolver" is so far my favorite Flower Kings album. Without totally cutting off from what they usually do, it brings a lot of freshness to a style that is generally difficult to swallow. Almost all the tracks provide a moment of intense pleasure, whatever its influences. I can only recommend this album before the others to those who would like to discover the talent of this extraordinary band.
