"Without highlights, The Rainmaker is an album definitely reserved for Flower Kings fans only."

Few bands have not had an empty period at some point in their careers. The memory of Yes's Big Generator or Genesis' Invisible Touch is still chilling for many of us. "The Rainmaker", perhaps less catastrophic than the two examples mentioned above, is nevertheless a Flower Kings mistake.

The release of this rather mediocre album, followed by the announcement of the departure of Chilean drummer Jaime Salazar, gave some cold sweats to the unconditional fans of this group, to such an extent that some did not hesitate to wonder if the Swedes had already given everything and could once again find their former level. Fortunately, what follows will prove to us that this is only an accident on the road with no consequences.

But back to "The Rainmaker": some will find it extremely unfair to call this album an error and will not fail to remind us of the quality of songs such as "Road To Sanctuary" or "City Of Angels", but it must be admitted that this album leaves a strong impression of boredom. The track that gives its title to the album is undoubtedly oppressive but falls miserably flat and "Serious Dreamers" is almost ridiculous because it is far from the Flower Kings' touch.

As usual, the whole is certainly well interpreted and suffers from no sound recording defects, but nothing here really catches the attention. This is so true that even during their concert in Paris during the Rainmaker tour, the audience will give a relatively cold welcome to these compositions, really waking up only for "Garden Of Dreams", the "Flower Power" album, or the now classic "Stardust We Are".

The Rainmaker is therefore an album definitely reserved for Flower Kings fans only, far from the quality of "Stardust We Are" or "Unfold The Future", his successor.

THE FLOWER KINGS: Space Revolver (2000)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Without totally cutting off from what Flower Kings usually do, "Space Revolver" brings a lot of freshness to a style that is generally difficult to assimilate.

ATMOSPHERIC METAL - Always less Metal, The Gathering continues to change with this "If Then Else" with Pop Rock Electro content.
