As usual, 4 years will have passed before Anekdoten does us the honour of releasing a new album. It's done with Gravity, the band's 4th opus which until now played a King-Crimsonian, dark and haunting progressive rock. Have they decided to continue along this path?

This is a question that requires reflection and a lot of listening. As much in terms of the sensations between "From Within" and this album there is a chasm, as much when we look in depth at the style Anekdoten is still very present. First of all, by its throbbing aspect. We find a part played on the bass that stay almost unchanged throughout the length of the tracks, a plaintive song and a repetitive side characteristic of what Anekdoten did before. And to finish a production that is always quite deaf.

But there are also a lot of acoustic and electric guitars that add up to a heady background noise when the power increases, very numerous and absolutely trippy.

The dissonances have been erased to let the listener fully immerse himself in the unique atmosphere of this opus which, unlike its predecessor, offers itself the luxury of having a soul. Here is all the difference; unlike "From Within", Gravity is alive and the alchemy works perfectly.

The synthetic spatial sounds in the background give the final touch. Whether they are present during lulls or nervous passages, they give the impression of floating, of escaping to another world.

Excellent surprise that this album. Without losing its identity, Anekdoten finally opens up to the outside world. They offer us a very personal music, sometimes nervous, sometimes melancholic but always delicate. The only negative point we could blame him for is that it seems a little short!

OTHER REVIEWS
SPOCK'S BEARD: Feel Euphoria (2003)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - If "Feel Euphoria" is a new start for Spock's Beard after the departure of Neal Morse, it remains an excellent album of progressive rock.
PARADISE LOST: One Second (1997)
ATMOSPHERIC METAL - If "One Second" seems much less Heavy Metal than its predecessor, Paradise Lost nevertheless manages to keep its identity and offers once again a great record.
