In the midst of the Trash and Hard FM wave, Tesla, less than 2 years after its formation, offers us a little gem of simplicity and efficiency. Like Aerosmith or Rose Tattoo, Tesla's rock is simple and effective.

From the first to the last track, the compositions are unstoppable, enhanced by an excellent sound that pays tribute to all the instruments. Jeff Keith's hoarse vocals add an undeniable touch of originality to Tesla's charm, especially on mid-tempo songs such as 'Changes', 'Before My Eyes' and 'We're No Good Together', which ends on a high note. The fast (and excellent) 'Cummin Atcha Live' and 'Rock Me To The Top' show that the band knows how to accelerate while remaining accessible.

The ingredients are familiar, but the recipe hits the mark on every track. The guitars are everywhere, with a variety of sounds and moods, and an emphasis on soli. The chemistry between the two guitarists is perfect ('Modern Day Cowboy'), reinforcing this sense of efficiency. (Little Suzi', a cover of the English band Ph.D, adds a fresh feel with its folk style and dry guitar parts.

There are few, if any, weak points on "Mechanical Resonance". Admittedly, if you look hard enough, you'll have to agree that 'Love Me' is pretty unremarkable and the lyrics are very basic, but that's not enough to spoil the party. Tesla's first album gives us an opportunity to appreciate his talent, know-how and efficiency.

OTHER REVIEWS
ISIS: Panopticon (2004)
HARDCORE - A clever mix of postcore and post-rock, "Panopticon" is a nerve-wracking journey from darkness to light that leaves its mark in minds.
DIO: Holy Diver (1983)
HARD ROCK - First album for the former singer of Black Sabbath and first success. Drawing its inspiration from a direct and heavy Hard Rock, "Holy Diver" opens the doors of the consecration to a Ronnie James Dio always in verve.
