Since "Second To None", five years have passed, a period of time necessary for Eclipse to release an album that everyone hopes will be more successful than the previous one. Indeed, since the formation of the combo in 1999, the few studio efforts have hardly left their mark in the ultra-saturated musical field of Hard Fm. This is due to melodies that are too sweet and to a competition in which too many candidates compete. But In addition to being excellent technicians, Scandinavian musicians have an undeniable talent for making new with old, recycling recipes from the 1980s and making them hits.

"Are You Ready To Rock" starts with a real Hard FM the old-fashioned way, at the limits of heavy melodic. To the delight of the listener, a large majority of the tracks skillfully redefine the genre, exploiting all the veins of the FM (calibrated melodies, catchy rhythms, guitar-hero solos...) and injecting more modern elements, such as speed, heavy or neo rock.

Of course, the register is not undergoing profound changes, but rather an evolution that lovers of the genre should appreciate. Eclipse is slowly moving towards a more punchy style, while maintaining what their peers, Europe, Talisman and others, knew how to do better, and competing with current leaders like Brother Firetribe.

"Breaking My Heart Again", "Unbreakable" or "To Mend A Broken Heart" are all excellent tracks... Magnus Henriksson's Van Haleniens tappings are of the best effect, Erik Märtensson's voice, although very (too?) close to Joey Tempest's is of a formidable clarity, always right, often supported by choruses. On the drums and keyboard side,  the work is quite academic but effective.

Refractories will obviously have reason to underrate such an album and will be confirmed in this task by some dispensable titles ("Wylde One", "Young Guns") but this third opus will probably delight all those who are looking for a little more efficiency and enthusiasm in melodic hard rock than usual. Not exceptional, of course, but a job well done, square, sometimes incisive, in short everything you need to go out in the sun in the middle of winter, without leaving home....
