After a rather promising Vemod, Nucleus could have been presented as the confirmation of Anekdoten's talent, but unfortunately this was not the case, even if this opus is no less recommendable.

The Swedish band asserts a little more its taste for dark and tortured atmospheres, supported by melodies and rhythms in which Crimson influences can still be detected without difficulty.

But Anekdoten is not content to continue on the path started two years earlier. This time, the overall violence is certainly restrained but much more present than on Vemod. The sound is more aggressive and this impression is a little more accentuated by the production, which is still as dull and "cottony" as ever. Linked to dissonant, dark and melancholic melodies, repetitive riffs and a singer giving the feeling of coming straight out of a stay in a psychiatric hospital, Nucleus will not help you to take life on the right side.

Finally, the compositions themselves are much less inspired than on the first album and none of them really stand out. It's well written and the whole thing can be listened to, but no track really makes you want to come back to it, as if the band had given everything they had two years earlier.

Anekdoten obviously remains with this album an original band to discover, even if I advise you to start more than ever with their first album.
