Carptree is a  Swedish band which presents with Superhero its second album. Let us recall that the formation is composed of only two musicians, the singer Niclas Flinck and the keyboardist Carl Westholm. The other instruments such as the guitar or the drums are played by professionals invited for the occasion to record the tracks in studio. Having heard a lot of good things about this opus, Music Waves had to take an interest in it.

Very often, when you expect something big, a slight disappointment is sometimes the result. Not this time because "Superhero" is simply exceptional. This album can be listened to like reading a book. Each track is a chapter with its twists and turns translated by power surges, its emotions transcended by an expressive voice situated between Peter Gabriel and Fish, its developments translated by an omnipresent piano/synthesis...

Many references come to mind when listening to "Superhero". Fish's rise to prominence in his neo-progressive period (Host Vs Craft is the obvious example), the ample harmonies of Everon, the piano of Supertramp, the rhythmics of Peter Gabriel and so many others. And despite all these reminiscences, Carptree does indeed plunge us into his personal universe, varied, dark and bewitching, rarely melancholic and very often opening up to the light by tonal changes of the most beautiful effect.

No need to add more. "Superhero" is an essential album which does not suffer from any defect. Each listening makes it possible to appreciate a little more the work carried out at the level of the arrangements and the writing of the compositions. A piece of advice, do not miss this album.
